“Empacted tooth extraction” refers to the situation in which the tooth does not adequately emerge in the jawbone and remains under the gum or is completely buried. This usually occurs for wisdom teeth, but other teeth may also be impacted.
Impacted tooth extraction may generally be required in the following situations:
Pain and Discomfort: The impacted tooth can create pain and discomfort due to conflict with other teeth or failure to erupt properly.
Infection: An infection can develop around the impacted tooth, causing pain, swelling, and other problems.
Jaw Problems: The impacted tooth can put pressure on the jawbone, causing jaw problems.
Crooked Teeth: The impacted tooth can crook other teeth, which can cause deterioration of the jaw structure.
The impacted tooth extraction procedure is usually performed by a dentist or oral surgeon. The procedure is usually performed under local anesthesia. The dentist removes the impacted tooth by cutting the gum and making the necessary corrections on the jawbone. There may usually be swelling and pain for a few days after the procedure, but these symptoms usually subside over time.
It is performed by our periodontist in our clinic.
