WHO IS A PEDIATRIC DENTIST (PEDODONTIST) AND WHAT DOES HE DO?

Dentists who receive specialization or doctoral training in the Department of Pediatric Dentistry for 3-4 years after completing their 5-year undergraduate education at the Faculty of Dentistry are called pedodontists or pediatric dentists.

➤ Pediatric dentists ensure that children do not develop a fear of the dentist by explaining dental treatment and examination in a way that appeals to the child and turning it into a game.

➤ Since each child’s tooth structure, nutrition, genetic predisposition and hygiene habits are different, a personalized oral and dental care program is determined by determining the child’s caries risk level.

➤ Informs both the child and the family about eating habits and tooth brushing education.

➤ Plans and implements preventive applications that can be applied before tooth decay occurs (Fissure Sealant, Fluoride Applications).

➤ Follows the child’s jaw and tooth development and performs preventive orthodontic treatments when necessary.

➤ Provides treatments to stop bad oral habits (thumb sucking, nail biting, pencil biting, etc.).

➤ Performs filling and endodontic treatments of primary and permanent teeth (Fillings, Root Canal Treatments, Amputation).

➤ When necessary, he performs extractions of milk teeth, placeholders and child prostheses.

➤ If the child experiences a dental trauma such as falling or hitting his head, they follow up and treat it.

➤ Performs dental treatments of children requiring special attention, children and adults with dentist phobia, and young children under sedation or general anesthesia in operating room conditions.
